Simple holiday sugar cookies

This is another fast and simple recipe for the holidays. Nothing like fresh baked sugar cookies!

Sugar Cookie Ingredients

1 ¾ cups (230g) all-purpose flour
tsp (1g) salt
½ tsp (2g) baking powder
½ cup (113g) butter
¾ cup (150g) sugar
1 (50g) egg
1 tsp (4g) vanilla extract
5 tbsps (60g) sugar, red and green sprinkles

  1. In an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar (just the plain sugar, not the colored sugar sprinkles) until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients (flour, salt and baking powder) and mix until the dough comes together and well mixed.
  4. Form the cookie dough into a 2" diameter log and wrap in plastic wrap.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours before baking.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350F degrees (375F for high altitude).
  7. Take the dough out and slice the log into 1/4" thick cookie rounds.
  8. Sprinkle the colored sugar on top of the cookies and bake for about 10 minutes on a cookie sheet.
  9. The cookies are done when the edges begin to golden. Serve warm or store for later.
