Vodka is the purest of the liquors; it isn't much more than ethanol and water. We infuse this pure substance with strawberries and cane sugar to make an amazingly smooth concoction that tastes misleadingly low in alcohol content and is guaranteed to get your friends shiitefaced.
4 cups of vodka
1 lb of organic strawberries
1/2 cup of organic sugar
Pour vodka into a large glass container with an opening large enough to easily load the quartered strawberries into.
Wash the strawberries with cold water and thoroughly drain them. Cut off their stems and any dodgy bits, and then cut them into quarters along their long axis.
Gently load the strawberries into the vodka container. Pour in the sugar. Allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for several hours. Stir gently and place the container into the refrigerator.
After infusion, which can be as short as an overnight soak, or as long as a week, use a fine colander to filter out the strawberries, seeds, and any other detritus that may be floating in the vodka. Using a funnel, pour the infused vodka into a serving bottle or decanter. Serve ice cold.
